Warmachine and Hordes Circle Battle Report: Warmachine Weekend 2018 Champs Round 2 - Krueger 2 vs. Siege 2

For round two, I was paired up with the lovely Mr. Simon of USA WTC fame. I’ve had many engaging conversations with Brent over random meals at conventions through the last two years, but this was the first opportunity we had had to play.

He had a single list - Siege 2 Gravediggers - and I figured Krueger had to be good into that (first time playing against Siege 2, woot!).

Once again, I lost the roll off and had to go second. Brent and I discussed his models’ threat ranges, and I decided to put my Sentry Stones in a position where he could get a few shots on them if he feated with Siege on the top of 1.

Cygnar turn 1:

Brent opts to feat turn 1. Siege puts down a hill before he feats and shoves himself onto it. The left side of the table sees the Express Team get two shots into the Sentry Stone and kill it.

On the right, he gets three Commando shots into it, so he mini-feats and spikes the last damage roll to kill the other Sentry Stone.

Everything is either Stealthy or Dug In and I don’t have any Sentry Stones now. Bad news! Bad news!

Circle turn 1:

My dice completely abandon me here and I think I kill a total of 3 models. I try to keep my important solos safe behind the building, but there’s nothing I can do about my models getting shot at or charged or both without conceding the scenario completely.

Cygnar turn 2:

On the right, my Woldwyrd gets shot to oblivion and Grievous Wounds is applied. I think it has two boxes left in body at that point.

On the left, Siege moves up and puts Fury on the Trenchers who charge and nearly kill the forward Woldwarden. He gets Grievous Wounds on him too, but he is lucky and has no systems out. The Infantry also mini-feated to put down some clouds around Siege.

Circle turn 2:

I spend about thirty minutes working out an assassination run that includes Krueger feating, charging the Ironclad once it’s pushed back, Telekinesising Siege off the hill into the cloud, Gallowsing him forward a bunch with my two Wardens, shooting him with my Fulcrum and Wyrd, and then Trampling Megalith up, Gallowsing him and then hopefully punching him to death.

And then I mess it all up by not putting Guidance on Krueger, so he has to Telekinesis himself into the cloud to Telekinesis Siege and then I do not have enough fury to Gallows him.

My Woldwarden that can get to the Ironclad charges the Ironclad, gets Siege with a Gallows and yanks him into Melee with Krueger, which is even worse because now he’s DEF 16 against most shooting.

Fortunately, I roll the critical Freeze on the Fulcrum Spray, and after that it only takes the Fulcrum and the Wyrd to kill him off, with a single boosted Gallows from Megalith to spare.

Victory for the Circle!

Post-Game Thoughts:

Man, I did not deserve that win. After I screwed up the Eyeless Sight, the assassination run went from about 50% to about 10% until I rolled the crit Freeze and it went up to 80%.

I really did not expect the turn one feat to kill my Sentry Stones, but in hindsight it was 100% the right call there.

Definitely a crazy game though. That second turn assassination took about 25 minutes to figure out and then about 15 minutes to execute. I was drenched in sweat by the end of it and had a pretty good migraine started. Throughout the whole thing, Brent was a fantastic opponent and I was very glad to play him.

Phew, round three!
