Bellingham Tournament Prologue

Attack X is next weekend, which is a 50 ish person event and my last chance to qualify for Warmachine Weekend this year without putting myself the last chance qualifier at the event itself.

As such, I need all the practice I can get. Fortunately, I live in the dead center of Washington state. Unfortunately, that means that while every major city is about the same distance, that distance is still somewhere between 150 and 200 miles.

Such is the case with Bellingham, and I got up nice and early Sunday morning to make the drive, with every Grymkin model I own outside of Piggybacks and Old Witch 3 in my battlefoam bag.

The choice ahead of me - do I play the Dreamer and King of Nothing? Or do I play the Child and the Heretic? Or do I play the Dreamer and the Heretic?

I had pretty set lists for each of these casters, with good ADR options I felt.

About halfway through the trip I had decided that I needed to play a caster that could take a beating in Menagerie, and I really wanted to play the Heretic because most of my opponents, once facing that list, have either clocked or been unable to handle the sheer amount of guys on the table.

With that in mind, I ended up bringing the Child in Dark Menagerie (the beast theme for those of you who are not Grymkin players) and the Heretic in Bump in the Night (the infantry theme).

Now a disclaimer: many extremely good, nay, great players of this game think that the Bump theme force is not worth bringing over two Menagerie theme forces. While they may be right, I was, once again, following my idea that a suboptimal list that I know well is better than an optimal list that I cannot pilot correctly.

So with that in mind, here is what I brought:

The Heretic (Bump)
- Rattler
- Gorehound
- Gorehound
- Crabbit x2

Lord Longfellow
Witchwood
Glimmer Imp

Dread Rots

When I got to the venue, I was pretty shocked to see that out of the ten people there, three of us were playing Grymkin.

The faction break down, from what I saw, was:

3 Grymkin
1 Cryx
1 Ret
1 Skorne
1 Trolls
1 Khador
2 That I cannot remember
