Battle Report 156 - Attack X Finals: The Wanderer (Bump) vs. Absylonia 2 (Oracles)

My round four opponent had beaten his Skorne opponent in the semis, so I had to play against Abby 2 again.

This time I dropped Wanderer since I didn't think the Heretic list had a real chance on a more spread out Scenario like Spread the Net.

I don't remember which Arcana I picked, i was pretty fried and nerved out at this point. It was another recorded game, so when the video is available I'll have it up. Tom Guan also streamed this game, and I have the footage from that.

I got to go first. The game only lasted three turns.

The Broad Strokes:

In order to guarantee a solid alpha, I baited out an assassination attempt on the Wanderer. I had forgotten that Proteus' animus lowers DEF and makes you unable to advance, and my opponent had the ability to fly a Neraph and hit my back pair of Road Markers by about 1/4 of an inch.

It took a Carnivean (who hit his assault shot under Star-Crossed) and two of three attacks from a Neraph to finish off the Wanderer, and that was the tournament.

Sadly, a loss for the Grymkin

Post-Game/Post-Tournament thoughts:

While I was disappointed to lose in the finals, I was elated beyond words to be there. This is a big step in my competitive journey, and I'm very proud to have made it to the finals of an event this big and with players this solid.

All of my opponents were delightful to play against, and I had game after game where I felt like it was the best game I had played, only to be surpassed by the one after it.

I'm still recovering from this physically (man am I tired still, that's a long drive), but I am already super excited to go back next year. This event got me most of the way to qualifying for Lock and Load 2018 Iron Gauntlet, and the next event I'm hitting in October will hopefully get me the rest of the way there.

Good luck at the WTC to both Cory and Tim, and thank you to all of the people who were reaching out with kind words and good wishes while the event was ongoing - I was blown away by your good will and encouragement. Thank you.
